Virginia’s Leaders in Cardiovascular Care

Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists (VCS) was founded in 1977 and is Virginia’s largest private cardiology practice. Independently owned, VCS has 39 board-certified cardiologists in 10 offices conveniently located around Greater Richmond. Our exceptional physicians are renowned for being innovators and the most respected cardiologists in the state.

As Virginia’s leaders in cardiovascular care, VCS has paved the way with many “firsts” for independent practices:

• First Cardiac Nuclear Imaging (MPI) in Virginia (1997)
• First Cardiac CT in Virginia (2007)
• First Urgent Heart Care Services in Virginia (2009)
• First Cardiac PET CT in Virginia (2017)
• First dedicated Cardiovascular Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) in Virginia (2023)
• First freestanding Cardiac Cath Lab in Virginia (2024)
• First Urgent Heart Care Center in Virginia (2025)

VCS is the cardiovascular group of choice for primary care physicians, internal medicine providers, and patients from Central and the Eastern Shore of Virginia. As voted by their medical peers, our physicians have been recognized in Richmond Magazine’s “Top Docs” every year since 1993.

Our team of physicians and advanced practitioners provides state-of-the-art, compassionate care for patients with heart disease, vascular conditions, and heart rhythm disorders. From diagnosing and treating heart attacks, strokes, and peripheral artery disease to proactive prevention, our cardiac team uses the latest technology to deliver the highest quality care.

All VCS physicians are board-certified and Fellows of the American College of Cardiology. Many also have additional sub-specialty training in:

• cardiovascular intervention, 
• carotid stenting, 
• CT angiography, 
• electrophysiology, and 
• peripheral vascular disease. 

Prevention is just as important. Our accredited CT scanning services and VascularView, a non-invasive vascular screening, help detect cardiovascular issues early, before symptoms arise.

VCS accepts all major insurance programs and maintains privileges at all of the Greater Richmond region’s HCA and Bon Secours hospitals. 

VCS is also proud to support the health of our broader community through Charity Care, partnerships with organizations like Access Now, and ongoing involvement with initiatives such as the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk.

History of Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists

VCS has a rich history of serving the central Virginia community providing advanced cardiovascular care in a compassionate environment. VCS is proud to be one of the largest independent cardiovascular practices in the state with accredited diagnostic testing, CT and cardiac PET service available to our patients. The VCS story started many years ago but the strong legacy continues.

We recognize the physicians that solidified the mission and vision of VCS and created a strong foundation which we continue to grow upon today.
